Wash the berries, boil them a few minutes in a preserving kettle, when cool strain them though a thin cloth. To every quart of juice add 1/2 pound of loaf sugar, 1/4 ounce nutmeg, 1/4 ounce allspice, 1/4 ounce powdered cinnamon. Boil all together fifteen minutes and when cold stir in 1/2 pint of best French brandy and seal it securely in bottles.
I recall my grandmother using a blackberry cordial which was quite thick for diarrhea. I have some blackberry cordial which has been sealed since I made it quite a few years ago and which appears to have jelled. Think I should open it and try it ? ( if it smells ok)!

I would think that so long as the seal held and it doesn't smell off, then you're probably okay. It might be quite strong, though!
